This is pretty weird stuff - seems like you could make some interesting applications between phones and other objects - like using it as a controller for a game or something.

Hello Ed, I dont think SoundPool can manipulate frequencies, but the sampling (such as 20050, 44100). That doesnt help =/

In this video i do manipulate the frequencies, but writing directly to a stream. BTW, I think my threading is all wrong, do you noticed some weird pops and clicks during the frequency changing?

Android does have a midi toolkit but it's kind of hidden. Try playing a .mid file in the MediaPlayer class.

For varying the frequencies, try the SoundPool class, which has parameters for the frequency.

Did you tried the Aggressive options as well?

perhaps if you try with: -vmargs -XX:ParallelGCThreads=20 -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+UseParNewGC -XX:SurvivorRatio=8 -XX:TargetSurvivorRatio=90 -XX:MaxTenuringThreshold=31 -XX:+AggressiveOpts

It uses the old parallel garbage collection, but with some options, try it.
